The Blackberry is Dead, Long Live the Blackberry

Andy Abramson just pegged an article on toktumi about the demise of RIM and the downfall of the Blackberry.

Man that was just after I was just planning to buy the T-Mobile Blackberry Bold 9700. The Bold is a great phone on a dead platform.

ZipDroid Support for Guava SIPDroid Based Gizmo Google Voice App

ZiMax Networks announces support for the Gizmo iteration of the SIPDroid Open Source Application. This support will be fee based as a development team is formed to create an HD Phone App for the Android Market.

Apparently there was some controversy about Gizmo reusing the SIPDroid Open Source Code when I-P-Tel caught wind of them publishing the upgrade.

The work that Gizmo did to upgrade the code was costly and outstanding, the program works well on a MyTouch running Android 1.6 calling out through the Google Voice service and this is all over the Internet completely free of charge to Gizmo account or my Google Voice account.

This is why Skype is looking to buy Gizmo, because the SIPPhone service has been developed to the degree that it can with some tweaking replace JoltID. So if Skype is willing to consider moving millions of users off of a closed proprietary architecture, there is obviously alot more to this technology than meets the eye.

It all hinges upon getting a Google Voice Number, a Gizmo account and an Android Phone. Next all you need to do is contact ZipDroid Support and start making calls over the Internet for free without using your minutes!

We'll Zip You Right Through It!

Skype to buy Gizmo

Well it looks as though Skype is looking to acquire Gizmo what this means is that all of the Skype users that are hemmed in and cant get into out out of Skype land as far as their calls are concerned and Gizmo users that can call whoever they want from wherever they want and on any type of phone, soft phone, wi-fi phone or plain vanilla VoIP all get merged together into one big happy VoIP family.

Since the ZipDroid Android App will be routing through Gizmo we will be keeping a close watch on how this develops.

Whether or not that routing functionality will remain intact is crucial to the ZipDroid being able to route calls through Gizmo.

Should be interesting.
