ZiMax Networks announces support for the Gizmo iteration of the SIPDroid Open Source Application. This support will be fee based as a development team is formed to create an HD Phone App for the Android Market.
Apparently there was some controversy about Gizmo reusing the SIPDroid Open Source Code when I-P-Tel caught wind of them publishing the upgrade.
The work that Gizmo did to upgrade the code was costly and outstanding, the program works well on a MyTouch running Android 1.6 calling out through the Google Voice service and this is all over the Internet completely free of charge to Gizmo account or my Google Voice account.
This is why Skype is looking to buy Gizmo, because the SIPPhone service has been developed to the degree that it can with some tweaking replace JoltID. So if Skype is willing to consider moving millions of users off of a closed proprietary architecture, there is obviously alot more to this technology than meets the eye.
It all hinges upon getting a Google Voice Number, a Gizmo account and an Android Phone. Next all you need to do is contact ZipDroid Support and start making calls over the Internet for free without using your minutes!
We'll Zip You Right Through It!
